Fraud is common in international commodity trade, and criminals often copy the names, logos and documents of real companies. This page tells you how to check that you are dealing with the real Tamim International Limited, and the rules we never break, so you can spot an impostor quickly.

Six checks to make before you buy
- Search the company register. Tanzanian companies are registered with the Business Registrations and Licensing Agency (BRELA). You can search its public online register free of charge by company name.
- Call us on the number above. Use the number on this page, not one given in an email or document, and ask us to confirm the offer, the contact person and the contract reference.
- Inspect the goods in person. You or an inspector you appoint can see the goods in Tanzania, take samples and arrange the assay or grading before any payment. A seller who refuses inspection is a warning sign.
- Verify every certificate with its issuer, not with the seller. SGS, for example, runs a free document verification service. Laboratory reports, Halal certificates and inspection certificates should all be confirmed with the body named on them.
- Verify any SKR with the custodian that issued it. A safe keeping receipt (SKR) is only as good as the custodian behind it. Contact the custodian directly, using contact details you find yourself, and never rely on an SKR instead of seeing and assaying the goods.
- Confirm bank details by phone before you pay. Bank details are set out in the signed contract. If you receive an email changing them, do not pay: call us on +255 780 397931 first.
Rules we never break
- We never ask for advance payment, deposits, “registration”, “insurance” or “release” fees before you have inspected the goods and signed the contract.
- We are paid by T/T only, after inspection and contract signature. We do not work on letters of credit.
- We do not publish prices. Every quotation is made in writing for a specific inquiry.
- We never ask you to pay a personal account or an account in another company’s name.
- For gold, we share our licences with verified buyers during due diligence; we do not post them online, because published licences are copied by fraudsters.
Common commodity scams and how to spot them
| Warning sign | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Price far below the market (for example copper, gold or sugar offered well under the international benchmark) | Genuine sellers price close to the market; deep discounts are bait |
| A fee before you can see the goods (registration, export duty, insurance, “release” of cargo) | Advance-fee fraud: the goods usually do not exist |
| No inspection allowed, or only photos and videos | Pictures can be copied from anywhere |
| Documents you cannot confirm with the issuer (SKR, assay report, certificate of origin) | Forged documents are a standard fraud tool |
| Urgency (“another buyer is waiting”, “price valid today only”) | Pressure stops you from checking |
| Free email address, look-alike domain or a new phone number | Impostors cannot use the real company’s channels |
